Airlink advises customers that flights this afternoon and evening are delayed due to air traffic control constraints at Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International Airport. The disruptions are caused by ATNS staffing shortages and the suspension or expiry of certain instrument flight procedures. These issues have led to departure delays, airspace restrictions, and some flight diversions, impacting the overall schedule. Airlink is working to recover operations and minimise delays. Updates will be shared via Airlink’s app, social media, and airport information screens.

Johannesburg, 23 October 2025 – Airlink, Southern Africa’s premier regional airline, is strengthening its reach into Japan, the Czech Republic, and Türkiye by joining the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Billing and Settlement Programmes (BSPs) in those countries.
Airlink is represented by AVIAREPS, its General Sales Agents (GSAs) in those key markets. Participation in the BSP enables enhanced support for travel agents in those three markets and, crucially, lets agents issue tickets directly. BSPs are secure and cost-effective, simplifying sales reporting and remittances from IATA-accredited travel agents to airlines.
This strategic enhancement is intended to optimise Airlink’s visibility and increase sales in those countries’ respective travel markets.
“Japan, the Czech Republic and Türkiye are important source markets for travel to, from and within South and Southern Africa. Although Airlink has been represented in those territories since 2021, by joining IATA’s BSP, we are raising our game and will be able to directly service agents in those countries. All these countries are important commercial gateways to major markets – specifically Asia, Central Europe, and the Middle East,” said Airlink CEO, Mr de Villiers Engelbrecht.
“This is also an important development as we build on our strong partnership with AVIAREPS, which, in 2022, we appointed to reinforce Airlink’s brand visibility and maximise ticket sales in several markets around the globe,” added Mr Engelbrecht.
From its main hubs in Johannesburg and Cape Town, Airlink’s fleet of 70 modern Embraer aircraft serve 48 destinations across Southern Africa, including Madagascar and St Helena Island, with a schedule that is unparalleled for reach, frequency, connectivity, and convenience. This is furthermore matched by Airlink’s innovative “Skybucks” frequent flyer rewards programme
Airlink offers worldwide connections through its global partners, which include many trusted and well-known inter-continental brands.
Airlink is an International Air Transport Association (IATA) member, accredited under its IOSA safety audit programme, and certified through the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Organisation.
